Human Skeleton System
The 206 bones and 32 teeth of the human skeleton stand out. However, if you look closely, you'll notice many more structures. All of the bones and joints in the body are part of the skeletal system. Each bone is a living organ composed of many cells, protein fibers, and minerals. The skeleton serves as a structure for the soft tissues that make up the remainder of the body, giving support and protection. Muscle attachment sites are also provided by the skeletal system, allowing for joint movement.
Parts of Skelton System
- Skull:- The cranium and the mandible are the two components of the skull. The neurocranium (protective shell surrounding the brain) and the viscerocranium (supporting the face) are the two portions of the human skull, with the mandible being the largest bone. It creates a safe chamber for the brain and supports the facial structures.
- Spinal Column:- The spine is made up of 33 bones known as vertebrae that are separated into five portions: Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar, as well as the Sacrum and Coccyx bones. The first seven vertebrae of the spine, from I to VII are the cervical part of the spine, which is attached to the base of the skull.
- Clavicle:- The clavicle is the bone that runs from the sternum or breastplate to the shoulder. It's a fairly substantial bone with a minor S-shape that may be noticed in a lot of people.
- Manubrium:- The manubrium is a big quadrangular-shaped bone located above the sternum's body. The lower border is smaller and rougher, and it articulates with the body by a thin layer of cartilage.
- Scapula:- The scapula, often known as the shoulder blade, is a triangular-shaped bone in the upper back. A complex system of muscles surrounds and supports the bone, which works together to enable you to move your arm.
- Sternum:- The sternum, often known as the breastbone, is a long flat bone at the center of the chest. It forms the front of the rib cage and attaches to the ribs via cartilage, helping to protect the heart, lungs, and major blood arteries from harm.
- Ribs:- The ribs are the main structural component of the thoracic cage, protecting the thoracic organs, although their primary purpose is to aid with breathing.
- Humerus:- The humerus, which runs from the shoulder to the elbow, is a long bone in the arm. It is made up of three portions that connect the scapula to the lower arm's two bones, the radius and ulna.
- Pelvic Girdle:- The two hip bones make up the pelvic girdle. The pelvic ring is formed by the hip bones connecting anteriorly at the pubic symphysis and posteriorly at the sacroiliac joints to the sacrum.
- Carpals:- The carpal bones are wrist bones that connect the distal portions of the forearm's radial and ulnar bones to the bases of the hand's five metacarpal bones.
- Phalanges:- The bones that make up the fingers of the hand and the toes of the foot are known as phalanges.
- Femur:- The femur is the human body's longest bone. It runs from the hip to the knee and is frequently referred to as the thigh bone.
- Patella:- The kneecap is another name for the patella. The patella (small bone in front of the knee joint) is a tiny bone.
- Tibia & Fibula:- The two long bones in the lower leg are the tibia and fibula. On the inside, the tibia is larger, while on the outside, the fibula is smaller. The tibia is significantly larger than the fibula.
- Tarsals & Metatarsals:- The tarsals bones are found in the area of the ankle and heel, whereas the metatarsals are found in the sole of the foot.
