How to Calculate the Weight of Steel?
The Formula for Calculating the weight of Steel bars are D²/162 for Kg/m and D²/533 for Kg/foot.
Where D denotes the diameter of steel bars, and 162 denotes a constant value.
Derivation of D²/162 or D²/533 Formula
Consider a steel bar whose diameter D and Length are L.
The density of the steel bar is 7850 kg/m3.Density = Weight / Volume
Weight of steel bar = Volume of steel Bar x Density of steel
Weight of steel bar = (Cross-sectional area of steel rod x Length) x 7850kg/m3
Weight of steel bar = (22/7 x (D2/4) x L) x 7850kg/m3
Weight of steel bar =
3.14 (D2/4) x 1000 mm x (7850/1000 x 1000 x 1000) mm
Weight of steel bar = 3.14 (D2/4) x 0.00785
Weight of steel bar = 0.06162 x D2
Weight / Meter = (D2/1/0.06162) = D2 / 162
The formula is Weight of Steel Bar = [D2/162] x L for Kg/m.
The formula is Weight of Steel Bar = [D2/533] x L for Kg/ft.
